When it comes to the Indian music then the Indian music is as old as the religion itself. It has its origination in the Hindu beliefs, views and the Vedic philosophy. Hindu music is classified into three types:
• Classical music
• Devotional music and
• Other music genres.
Classical Music:
Classical music is a complete music structures with 12 tones and 7 basic swaras like the most melodious Sa, Re, Ga, Ma, Pa, Dha, Ni, Sa. The Indian Classical music is monophonic, formed by a single melodious raga and rhythmically followed by the beat notes or Tala. Each melody revolves around different moods or seasons and they are even based on the gender characteristics. Thus ragas are voices methods of adopting the self to the different moods or behavior patterns of the day. The basic philosophy behind the Indian Classical music is the reach to the main goal of self realization through meditation. It is based on Ragas and beat rhythms. Ragas are one of the acoustical methods to evolve one self to the moods and the different spheres of life is a way of meditation aiming to draw oneself closer to the nature. These ragas have such innate power that these compositions meant as an invitation to the rain have actually poured the unexpected showers.
The classical music has two basic forms:
1. Hindustani classical music &
2. Carnatic music
1. Hindustani classical music: This originated during the 13th and the 14th century A.D. in the northern India. It has its origination from the Vedic philosophy and the Hindu religion traditions; it has some resemblance from the Persian music and the Moghuls music. The version starts with an introductory with a short 2 minute aalap to a long 30-40 minute piece. Rhythmically the music becomes fast and it is then joined by the percussionist. The musical instruments utilized to make these tunes more melodious are Tabla, Sitar, Taanpura, Flute, Shehnai and Sarangi.
2. Carnatic music has originated in the Southern India. The ragas in this music are short and fast paced. They start with versions seeking Varnam, followed by asking blessings. Carnatic music has a most theoretic and rigid musical structure. They have ragams, rhythm beats followed by the raga theme. Carnatic music is more vocal centric. The instruments used in the Carnatic music are Veena, Mridangam, Kanjira and Violin.
Devotional music
Kirtans and Bhajans are oral versions of musical songs devoted to God. Kirtans have their origin from the Vedic traditions; Bhajans on the other hand are more words oriented expressing devotion to God. Kirtans are carried on along with the musical instruments and Bhajans are sung with profound devotion with the intention of moving more closer to the inner self.
Other Musical Genres:
The other musical genres include the folk music, regional music. The regional music is the music which is played across the different states of India in different languages. Folk music are played along with the different set of musical instruments.

Tappa and thumri cannot be deemed strictly classical styles, like dhrupad, dhamar and khayal. Yet, if they form part of the classical tradition, it is because the styles are based on ragas. Tappa originated in Punjab and evolved from songs of camel-drivers. It is said that Shourie Miyan, a celebrated vocalist, beautified and embellished the original songs and elevated them to the classical status. Tappa-singing is marked by a fast tempo, with a surfeit of intricate, complex and super-speed taans.
The tappa has now almost gone out of fashion.
Thumri marks yet another significant phase in the evolution of Hindustani music. It came Into vogue in eastern Uttar Pradesh during the reign of Wajid Ali Shah, the last nawab of the 18th century. Unlike dhrupad, dhamar and khayal, it Is the expressive aspect of the song content that is vital to thumris depiction. Its rendering calls for a 'feeling' heart, a fecund mind and a delicate expression on the part of the singer. The singer has freedom to conjure a variety of vocal modulation in order to vivify lyrical import of a thumri.
Not surprisingly, therefore, it was once the exclusive preserve of female singers, as it lent itself naturally to their temperamental make-up and relatively sweeter voice. Over the years, though, there have been several male as well as female virtuosi who have excelled in thumri-singing. There are numerous popular variations of thumri, like chaiti, kajri and barsati, but no less vivacious and titillating in their appeal to audiences today.

Not again , another white woman asking the same question over and over?
Not all people are racists.
Some do and some don't.
Don't worry about what people thinking.
Why are there so many white women asking the same thing in yahoo about racist talking?

This was a great blast from the past Huevo! I haven't heard those guys for a while. I do however still need to get more of their music. I've been putting it off for a while. I remember Beat Happening from some compilations I have. Here's the song from one of those compilations that first got me thinking about how good Beat Happening's music could get–
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1D6lJbFdXdc
As for the songs you have on links of theirs, the music on all 3 was great, the deepest of the 3 songs, I though was "I Love You" & "Indian Summer".
I liked "I Love You" the best.
"Indian Summer" had a part or so that carried something sad, which reminds me that's something to be careful of.
Thank you for posting this band Huevo!

The definitive work about the Voyager record is "Murmurs of Earth" by Sagan, Drake, Lomberg et.al. Basically, this book
"Murmurs of Earth", originally published in 1978, was reissued in 1992 by Warner News Media and includes a CD-ROM that replicates the Voyager record. Unfortunately, this book is now out of print, but it is worth the effort to try and find a used copy or browse through a library copy.

Although I don't know the girl you met, but according to your very detailed summary Im pretty sure she is interested in you. I know how not knowing if someone likes can drive you insane (xD), because I have a similar problem. But as you have mentioned already, this girl is not shy generally, only around you. She has not made a move to hug you either (for the past 2 months?) but calls you a best friend. This is why I think that you answered your own question. I also think that you're in a good position right now, and you should take things just as slowly, because that is one of the building blocks of a relationship. I think one of the best ways to get closer to her is to invite a group of friends (including her) to the movies or a hang-out at a cafe. It's not intimate, and chances are that you will feel more comfortable that way around her. I went with a few close friends (and the person I like) to a cafe several times and I got the guts to sort of ease the awkard tension between him and me, and we are both shy.

to those who attacks Hinduism with the caste fact, yes, in the vedas, caste are mentioned.
But…….
it is mentioned caste is more on DUTIES for humans. Say the Brahmins are to take care of prayers and such, and the last, sudras, are said to be the HELPING HAND for the other people, Sudras r normally the nomadic people, who is new the a certain society. and these caste are not determined by BIRTH, but only by duties. and yea, anyone can change their caste based on their outcome.
so…. its the people whom is to be blamed for what caste is known as today……
THERE U GO, HATERS!!!!!
